The Reason Why We Are Persistent
In the article” I Know the Truth, So Don’t Bother Me with Facts,” the author, Jeffrey Kluger, discusses a human weakness that many people were not willing to accept the truths and reverse their positions even though they found the real facts. A research from Ohio State University has invested how people were deceived by rumors shows two troubling conclusions. However, there are some investigators are still looking for the connections from how brain system effects people’s belief.
I agree with professor Garrett and Nisbet when they state even though people take time to learn the facts, the effort often does no good, because modern people have been developing into a characteristic of self-believing or not trusting other people in this complex society. Additionally, our daily life are surrounding of lies.
According to a research which was published on the famous science magazine, Scientific American, shows a unusual result. Investigators have found that the average person tells four lies a day, or 1,460 a year for a total of 88,000 by the age of 60. Once people realized they were treated, they would never trust other people when they encountered the same experience. As a result, we are not willing to trust people gradually.
Secondly, as everybody known the development of socialization and advertising in 21st century, we are living in the period of commercial society. In the other perception of view, we are actually living in a period of lies. Advertisings are everywhere no matter where we stay, we have been brain-washed by the fantastic descriptions of products. Therefore, our ability of distinguishing the real facts was destroyed. Besides, we all realize the purposes of advertising, which is to entice consumers in order to expand their revenues and profits. As a consequence, we become much more persistent and self-believing.
In conclusion, we now realize the difficulties of trusting others rashly. Everyone doesn’t want to be hurt by lies, thus, we choose to be persistence. Otherwise, it could be foolish if we don’t know how to distinguish realities in this complex society.

The Allegory of the Cave
In the article “The Allegory of the Cave,” the philosopher, Socrates, explains an allegory to one of his followers, Glaucon, questions his perception of human nature. In the story, he assumes that a group of prisoners were chained since birth. Their abilities of moving were limited except identifying people’s shadows who passed behind them. One day, a prisoner was released, he enabled to touch and experience the real world out of the cave which he had never known what it looked like. With the time passed, he discovered the realities in the human life and wanted to share those visions to other prisoners. However, they couldn’t recognize him because of his different shape of shadow. Therefore, he would never go back to his origin.
As the author states that “Either in public or private life, we must have our eyes fixed,” I found the right attitude in analyzing difficulties when we uncounted them. In my opinion of his saying, Socrates actually tells us that we should have positive attitudes and confidences in dealing with troubles. In another word, we should be optimism. A wise person once said that having confidence in self is the best power to overcome the troubles. I strongly agree with this opinion though my personal experience. I once have traveled the seacoast of South China by riding bike with my best friends, the total distances of the trip is 200 miles. Despite the feelings that other people had about our crazy plan, we had already headed on the way. Finally, we made our dream come true by staying with confidence and trusting ourselves. If we hadn’t had positive attitude when we encountered difficulties, we wouldn’t have succeed ourselves. There is, in order to have our eyes fixed before dealing with difficulties, we should stay positive, stay optimistic.

The
Values of Advertisements
In the article
"Hype," the author, Kalle Lasn, describes the increase of commercial
pollution in North America. Advertising has happened in everywhere people
can been through and every calm moment we have. Therefore, we have been
brain-washed in this competitive world. In addition, the author states that
advertisements are the most prevalent and toxic of the mental pollutants.
However, in my opinion, while advertisements are polluting our
mental, they are also benefiting our economy. Several reasons are address
below.
First, advertising
boosts our economy in different domains. During a down economy period,
advertising industry contributes social economy by creating jobs to lower
the unemployment rate in the US. According to the research by MONEY magazine,
US advertising plays a key role in generating 18 million of the 120 million
jobs over the time of economy crisis in 2007, which has boosted 3% of G.D.P in
a year.
However, some people have claimed
that advertisements pollute human mental and flood our brains. I have to admit
the harms of advertising. Actually, we all have been hurting by the
universality of advertisements. In a different perspective, advertising definitely
plays an essential role in enabling sporting events such as NBA and FIFA world
cup. For instance, we will see NIKE logos spread in a basketball game, or we have
already gotten use to stand a few minutes commercial before watching TV shows. Without
the sponsorship subsidizes the events, these programs will no longer exist.
In
conclusion, we should have a right perception in commercial pollutions. With
the developments of economy and socialization, advertising has become one of our
social elements. We should be flexible in order to survive in this competitive
society.
