099 Final Project: Organic Meal

I really like to have simple meal for my Saturday brunch, because I usually get up a little bit late on Saturday, but simple meal also can be tasty and healthy. Today I woke up at 10am, I decided to buy some organic food from Key Food and have a great brunch to start my wonderful weekend. I am thinking about to make a Chinese & Korean style fried rice, I have already had a shopping list in my mind before I went shopping.

Food Lists:
Chicken Breasts (Organic): $8.72 for 0.97lb.
Farm – Grown Eggs (Organic): $4.99/dozen
Chopped Scallion
Korean Kimchi (Purchase from Asian supermarket on local Flushing)
Green Tea (Organic)
Rice
Italian olive oil

The Scallion and Korean Kimchi was purchased from Asian supermarket on local Flushing, because Key food actually doesn’t sell Scallions and Kimchi. Additionally, the rice and Kimchi from Asian supermarket can be truly traditional and tasty.

Next, Chop the Chicken breasts to be a shape of square. I decided to soake it with salt for 10 minutes just to make it tasty; otherwise, it will be no flavor after we fried it. The color of chopped chicken breasts shows like smoked chicken after I fried it “Lightly”. Also, I choose to use olive oil, because it’s long been reported that there are numbers of health benefits of olive oil, it contains valuable vitamins and nutrients, and it is loaded with antioxidants, which many believe help protect the body from cancer.

Finally, simply put everything into pan and fried them with quick speed and strength. Remember that, rice should be cook until it becomes dried, lightly wet rice doesn’t tasted good.

The total meal cost about $15, but I only used part of the food I purchased today. Thus, the total material cost for this brunch is less than $5! Can you believe it? Five dollar for an organic meal! Well, I guest it can only happen if we made it at home, plus, home – made food always healthier and cleaner than eating outside. It already made my day after I finished this meal.

Blog 14: Manufactured Demand

The article states that, “The bottled water industry is merely meeting consumer demand.” I don’t agree this opinion.

In my opinion, it’s not meeting consumer demand but seducing it, in order to increase their profits from consumers. Manufactures are trying to influent our minds and choices by advertising everywhere in our livings. As everybody known, we have entered 21st century. The 21st century is a period of socialization and advertisement. The advertisings we have seen and heard have direct impact to us in making choices.  According to researches, each year, bottle water companies spent 10 to 15 percent of their profits in advertising costs. Obviously, the purpose of bottle water advertising is to convince consumers to buy their products. Thus, the more bottle water sold, the greater consumer demand will have.

The food critics have taken placed in an unlikely group --- the young children. In the article, “Mom, Dad, Buy the Broccoli,” the author indicates the emergent situation in our society. Junk food advertising has been flooded among young. Because of this, the council of Better Business has taken their actions to prevent advertising to younger children. Secondly, the children’s Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative is expected to change their guidelines for manufacturers. Particularly, obesity has become a serious issue among the young. Whether they can make healthy food and behavior has become a question in society.
In my opinion, junk food advertising shouldn’t take place in elementary schools, because these advertisings will direct children to the wrong way of choosing healthy foods. Most importantly, healthy young generation has direct impacts to our country’s future.
As everybody known the importance of eating healthily, having nutritious meals plays an important role to our health. The more nutritious food we ate, the healthier we will be. However, Junk foods don’t have any benefit to our health. Recently, scientists have published the newest research, which has proved that “Junk food cause brain damage, Junk food make people stupid.” By eating junk food, our brain become less and less effective, hormones and food additives are usually contained in most fast food and soda. These hormones and additives, known as the main reasons of obesity and several kinds of cancers. Especially, kids are easier to be injured due to their developing brains. As adults, we should take the responsibility of guiding them to the right way of eating. With healthy young generation, we have won in the competitive world before we started.
Advertising can influent our thoughts of choosing goods. We are facing uncountable flies in our daily life from the moment when we wake up. I once had been a math tutor for elementary school students, beside study; I liked to play games and eat dinner with then after class finished. I decided to treat them a final meal at the time we finished that semester. Surprisingly, they answered me that Mcdonalds and KFC are the best and most healthy foods they wanted to eat when I asked they what they want to eat. Obviously, the development of fast food advertising has directed children the wrong definitions of healthy food. Children have the outstanding ability of simulation due to their developing minds. However, they are unable to distinguish right and wrong when they were child. As adult, we should take the responsibility to keep advertising environment correctly.
In conclusion, we now realized the impact of advertising in school. Kids are missing their ways because of junk food critics in society; we should obtain a positive environment of choosing goods in schools. Thus, we will have a bright future.

In the video” The Meatrix,” the protagonist, Neo, is a pig who lives in a natural and organic farm. He would never realize the truths of how meats grew from until Morpheus, a bull, appears in his life. Morpheus shows him the real images about the process of cultivating meats, where cows, pig, and chickens have bad living conditions. For years, big corporations cultivate meats by adding all kinds of hormones to their bodies, polluting environments, and sorting living space of live stocks in order to expand their profits.  Neo was chosen to be the one who can discover and save the reality of the Meatrix. Thus, the competition between their crew and big corporation agents had begun in the meatrix.

Blog Entry 9: English 101 Practice

Are we living in The Matrix? If the world we are living is a fake from somewhere, and our disbursements and happiness don’t have any impacts to our futures, will we still strive for goods? In the movie “The Matrix,” the protagonist, Neo, could not recognize the truth in what is real in his life and who he is. Later on, he was found by Morpheus and his crew to be the person who can distinguish appearance from reality and help the human rebellion. Significantly, Neo choose the red pill to discover the reality of the matrix. Thus, the competition between their crew and agents began in the matrix.

If I were Neo, I would also choose the red pill, to discover the real world whether it is painful or pleasant instead of having a constant life, because everyone can only experience his or her life once. Having a positive attitude can make our one-time life meaningful and happy. Otherwise, if we choose not to fight with the difficulties when we are awaking, we are nothing difference as dust in our earth.

As human beings, we all have different thoughts, feeling, beliefs and opinions about the various aspects of our lives. The attitudes we hold have a direct impact on our ability to succeed. Therefore, having a positive attitude plays an important role in achieving our goal. For example, the previous CEO of Apple company, Steve Jobs, faced hundred times of failures before he succeeded Apple. He was adopted by his parents when he was a boy, then he dropped his college to create his business. During the road of success, cancer comes to him along with the company’s collapse and liabilities. However, he finally overcomes the troubles by keeping a good attitude and confidence in self. Eventually, he succeeds himself and owns rich experiences in life. In another word, if we choose not to chase our goal and freedom, we won’t have a memorable life experience just like him. Suffering makes our life beautiful.

In addition, I can always taste the pleasure after the long way of chasing. For example, I once have traveled the seacoast of South China by riding bike with my best friends, the total distances of the trip is 200 miles. Despite the feelings that other people had about our crazy plan, we had already headed on the way. When we were riding on the road along the seacoast, the music from the sea, the fresh air and beautiful sea color offered a backdrop for a powerful shift in perception. At that moment, I felt my energy shift and I noticed my thoughts had changed. If we hadn’t discovered the adventure, I wouldn’t have enjoyed that refreshing moment and found the meaning of life. Enjoying our life and never give up.

The attitues we hold in life has a direct impact to our fates, there is not ways to prevent ourself encountering difficulties in life. However, we can overcome them by holding a positive attitue and working hard. Whether we are living in the matrix or not,  life still goes on. Let’s keep overcoming with troubles in our life, thus, we will have meaningful life.

In the article “The Dangers of Reality TV,” the author, Timothy Sexton, indicates the negative consequences of“Reality TV” to young generations. Reality TV sends the wrong perception of views in life which directs young generations to the wrong ways. According to the dangerous messages from Reality TV, living in society becomes a competition in engaging with each other, image becomes more important than ability. What’s more, it also states that education is completely useless in succeeding our dreams.

I believe that education is the power of human resource, because education gains our knowledge to make our life wealthy. Additionally, with wealthy knowledge, we can also achieve our goals. Several evidences are addressing below.

According to the research from “Money” magazine, in average people who have bachelor degree have $35,000 income per year. In contrast with $25,000 of people who hold high school diploma. Obviously, the level of education plays an important role in succeeding in this competitive society. With the development of socialization, we have entered 21st century. The 21st century is a period of education and technology. For instance, the successes of Apple Company and Microsoft have demonstrated the importance of education. Many employees of these successful companies have high education background. With education, we would have infinite creativities to make our dreams happen.
What’s more, education not only gives us money but a way to gain our soul. A wise person once said that education is the power of human resource. I strongly agree with this opinion. Life is not always like the way we expected, we may fail ourselves after encountered difficulties. However, we would realize that we actually grow up and become stronger after failures. As an example from the famous scientist Tomas Edison, he has failed thousand times of examinations before he eventually invented the light bulb, which is the most well-known and useful invention in modern world. He believed that one cannot succeed his or her goals in one step. Therefore, the opinion from reality TV about the obsolescence of education is non-sense and incorrect. The real purpose of education is to teach people how to learn from difficulties.
In conclusion, we now realize the importance of education. With knowledge, we will have a bright future, and we will find ways to overcome difficulties.

Question 1: The Perfect World

Life is an experience. Although life is not the way we expected, we still learn and grow from struggles. In my opinion, I wouldn’t choose to live in Cristoff’s “perfect world,” because I believe that the perfect world is a temporary moment before the storm come, once the perfect world no longer existed, we will lose our defense in the complex world. In contrast with Seahaven, our world is more dangerous and competitive; we may be hurt and breathless by reality. However, one day when we suddenly looked back our experiences, we would be thankful to the troubles we have encountered, we would realize that we were growing from them. With “perfect world,” we would lost our hopes in life.

The Reason Why We Are Persistent

In the article” I Know the Truth, So Don’t Bother Me with Facts,” the author, Jeffrey Kluger, discusses a human weakness that many people were not willing  to accept the truths and reverse their positions even though they found the real facts. A research from Ohio State University has invested how people were deceived by rumors shows two troubling conclusions. However, there are some investigators are still looking for the connections from how brain system effects people’s belief.
I agree with professor Garrett and Nisbet when they state even though people take time to learn the facts, the effort often does no good, because modern people have been developing into a characteristic of self-believing or not trusting other people in this complex society. Additionally, our daily life are surrounding of lies.
According to a research which was published on the famous science magazine, Scientific American, shows a unusual result. Investigators have found that the average person tells four lies a day, or 1,460 a year for a total of 88,000 by the age of 60. Once people realized they were treated, they would never trust other people when they encountered the same experience. As a result, we are not willing to trust people gradually.
Secondly, as everybody known the development of socialization and advertising in 21st century, we are living in the period of commercial society. In the other perception of view, we are actually living in a period of lies. Advertisings are everywhere no matter where we stay, we have been brain-washed by the fantastic descriptions of products. Therefore, our ability of distinguishing the real facts was destroyed. Besides, we all realize the purposes of advertising, which is to entice consumers in order to expand their revenues and profits. As a consequence, we become much more persistent and self-believing.
In conclusion, we now realize the difficulties of trusting others rashly. Everyone doesn’t want to be hurt by lies, thus, we choose to be persistence. Otherwise, it could be foolish if we don’t know how to distinguish realities in this complex society.

Claim:
In my opinion, modern people have been developing into a characteristic of self-believing commonly in nowadays complex society. It is the consequence of socialization.

Reason 1:
Modern people are living in a commercial society. As everybody known the development of advertising in society, we are living in a period which is surrounding by commercial lying. Consequently, our ability of trusting other people are becoming weaken.

Reason 2:
According to a research which was released on the famous magazine shows an unusual result. Investigators have found that every seven of ten sentences people have spoken in daily live are lying as an average rate.

Thesis:
In my opinion, people who don’t want to be bothered reflect their characteristic of self-believing, because we are living in a period which is surrounding by commercial advertisements. As a result, our ability of trusting other people become weaken. Moreover, according to a research, people lie every day.
